How can I get HSCSD?
Posted Mon, 07 May 2001

To make use of HSCSD the customer must be in possession of an HSCSD-enabled device. Currently there are only two devices available that support HSCSD – the Nokia 6210 cellphone and the Nokia Card Phone 2.0. Ericsson has advertised that they will be supplying one new model that is HSCSD-enabled: the Ericsson R520.

HSCSD is available to all contract subscribers. Applications for HSCSD can be made to the Service Provider, who will then activate the service on the subscriber’s MSISDN and charge the subscriber an activation fee.

A subscriber who chooses to have HSCSD in conjunction with a share-time tariff will need to notify their Service Provider on which of the two cellphone numbers the service must be activated. If the subscriber decides to have HSCSD services loaded on both cellphone numbers, each cellphone number must be requested separately – each attracting a separate activation fee.

Subscribers who currently have an SMS-only or data-only tariff must migrate to a voice tariff on which HSCSD is allowed, following standard migration procedure. The HSCSD bearer can then be activated on the voice tariff with the normal activation fee.
